PXP Presents: Resident Resource Consultant, Cameron presents our Interview Skills tips to IBSUniversity’s final year students

In October, our resident Resource Consultant, Cameron Kiki, was invited to present at IBSUniversity’s (IBSU) Employability Skills Training event, held at IBSU’s Saraga/College Campus, from 18 to 21 October.

The training covered almost 20 topics to prepare students for their imminent departure from study and in to the job market. With everything from goal setting, self-esteem management and communication, to workplace behaviours, corporate etiquette and team dynamics.

Cameron took to the stage to speak to Southern Cross University (SCU) and IBSU’s final year students about Interview Skills, presenting Peopleconnexion’s Interview Guide, which is embedded within our Career Transition Program.  Take a look at the video attached above for a sneak peek of our tips!

Cameron himself is not too far removed from where his audience were seated, having been a student just a few years’ ago. In fact, Cameron returned from his presentation thrilled, as he turned out presenting to many of his fellow students he studied with, before he began at Peopleconnexion.

“To present to them, and for them to learn something from me since I left, makes me feel proud of myself from going through the transition of being a student to now an employee in the workforce. For me to deliver a presentation of my first-hand experience back to them is a highlight, if I can do it, they certainly can too once they enter the corporate world.”

Cameron spoke of being a student saying, “As a [recent] student myself, I wish I had been given the insights, skills and knowledge that are now accessible to me working in the HR and Recruitment industry.

“It is important to understand your strengths and weaknesses and know how to effectively market yourself to future employers, especially when in interview scenarios.”

We know all about graduation programs here at Peopleconnexion! While we have recruited our own graduates, we also support clients in recruiting for theirs.  One of our clients running a graduation program states they look not only at the GPA of candidates, but also:

  • Communication skills – both written and verbal. A CV should be well written, presented with minimal to no mistakes
  • Confidence – employable candidates should come across as confidence and can express themselves well when talking about experience
  • Display of transferable soft skills – showing leadership, time-management and problem solving.

The Skills Development Program is a great initiative, and we would like to thank IBSU for inviting Peopleconnexion to present. As PNG has invested into its education sector in the recent years, graduates in PNG are on the rise and facilitating employability skills training will enable the soon influx of graduates to secure great opportunities!
