About OTML's Undergraduate Student Scholarship (USS)

The USS offers students with academic excellence the opportunity to have their final two years of university sponsored by OTML; access to world-class industrial training programs; and an instant spot in their Graduate Developement Scheme upon graduation.

OTML is the largest single employer in the Western Province with PNG nationals making up 98% of the workforce. Because of this, they have established an extensive training and development platform across all levels and disciplines to build skills in an inclusive and rewarding workplace and a culture that is conducive to supporting and shaping emerging professionals to perform to their maximum potential.

The USS provides students a streamlined position to work alongside a cadre of experienced professionals in their chosen field across OTML, who are equip to guide and mentor young professionals into the ever-challenging world of work.

We are currently inviting applicants from the below disciplines, in line with the key criteria to apply:

Key Criteria 

To be considered for the 2024 USS, you must:

  • Be a second-year student at Second Year student at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), Divine Word University (DWU), Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT), or Pacific Adventist University (PAU).
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.5 or a Cumulative Weighted Average of 75% and above in your last three (3) semester results, and continue to maintain throughout studies.
  • Be an aspiring young professional who possess some of the following attributes & qualities:
    • Outstanding safety & healthy lifestyle habits Leadership experience/ability
    • Strong written & oral communication skills
    • Confidence & decision-making ability
    • Sound planning & Organisational ability
    • Team player
    • Flexibility & adaptability
    • Problem analysis & solving skills
    • Consistent academic excellence performance.
  • Be a PNG citizen.

About OTML

Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) operates the Ok Tedi Mine, the longest running open-pit copper, gold and silver mine in Papua New Guinea.

OTML is a 100 percent Papua New Guinea (PNG) owned entity with 67 percent direct shareholding by the Independent State of PNG and the people of Western Province holding a 33 percent interest.

100% of the benefits from its operations are distributed to the people of Western Province and the rest of PNG.

Apart from its direct monetary contribution, OTML is also extensively involved in PNG’s Western Province development through its Tax Credit Scheme initiatives and other infrastructure projects targeting areas such as health centres, school classrooms, houses, roads, airstrips, jetties, water supply and communication systems for a sustainable socio-economic benefit to its impact communities as well as PNG.
