13th PNG Mining and Petroleum Investment Conference

Kristine Berry and Fraser Hawkins attended the 13th PNG Mining and Petroleum Investment Conference this week in Sydney. The PNG Oil & Gas industry is in a period of growth and it was good to see the number of prospective growth and exploration planned for 2015. The PNG Mining sector is undergoing change to address a number of challenges the sector has been facing. These achievements and challenges were showcased in this year’s conference on the PNG resources sectors. It was a great opportunity to meet all players in the industry and the decision makers in Government. Very professional and highly recommended .

Present to give the keynote address was Prime Minister Peter O?Neill, as well as Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch who took the opportunity to address the recently released 2015 budget.

The first day of the three-day event saw heavyweights from the resource industry arrive in to fill the Hilton Hotel in Sydney. Amongst them were representatives from the government, including Prime Minister Peter O?Neill and Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch.

Prime Minister O?Neill, while giving his keynote speech, spoke about the role of the government in ensuring investor confidence is not undermined by political issues.

He urged current and future investors to maintain confidence and assured that the government will, in their part, pursue policies consistently and with certainty. In an interview with Resource PNG following his keynote address, the Prime Minister spoke about projects he would like to see develop in the near future.

The consensus after the first day of the conference is that the PNG mining industry is addressing these changing conditions and significant progress is being made in response to the new environment.
